Love Finch, but what you really want is to put your phone down?
Finch is a self-care app with a little bird that grows when you complete your daily goals. Lampi is more specific: a pet that shines when you put your phone down, with nothing to log. Here are both, pros and cons.
Lampi and Finch at a glance
| Lampi | Finch | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A light pet that keeps you company all day and shines brighter the less you use your thief apps. | A self-care pet: your bird grows when you complete goals, journaling, breathing and mood check-ins. |
| How it works | You pick the apps and a gentle daily limit. No sessions to start: Lampi follows along on her own with Apple’s Screen Time. | Every day you check off your goals and do short exercises; they give your pet energy for its adventures. |
| If you slip | She takes a nap. If you open an app past your limit, she asks if you really want to go in; you can stop, breathe with her for 20 seconds or ask for 5 more minutes. She never gets sick or dies, and tomorrow starts fresh. | No punishment: it’s an app built for mental health, and very kind. |
| What’s free | The important stuff: Lampi and her shield, the daily limit, expeditions and postcards, breathing with her and night mode. | The listing doesn’t say what Finch Plus adds; some reviewers say they barely miss anything on the free version. |
| Paid | Lampi Plus, optional: $6.99/month or $49.99/year, with a 7-day trial on the yearly plan. | Finch Plus: the US listing shows prices from $5.99 to $69.99 without saying which period each one is. |
| Where | iPhone. Android in private beta. | iPhone, iPad and Android. |
What Finch does better
- Complete self-care. Guided journaling, mood tracking, breathing, goals, anxiety and depression quizzes and sleep routines. Lampi does none of that.
- A huge community. 4.9 stars from about 765,000 ratings in the US and over 10 million downloads on Google Play, with seasonal events.
- Works for any habit. Drinking water, walking, studying: you decide what counts.
What Lampi does differently
- Made for your phone. Finch doesn’t measure or limit screen time. Lampi does: she uses Apple’s Screen Time and only looks at the apps you pick.
- Nothing to log. No goals to check off, no day to record. Lampi follows along on her own and shines brighter the less you scroll.
- A kind shield. If you open an app past your limit, Lampi shows up half asleep and asks if you really want to go in. You can stop or ask for 5 more minutes.
- Just as kind. Like Finch, no punishment: Lampi never gets sick or dies, and every day starts fresh.
Which one is right for you?
If you want a companion for self-care in general, Finch is one of the best there is. If your struggle is specifically your phone, that’s what Lampi is for. And they get along: you can have both.
